Free vs Total Testosterone and SHBG: What Your Blood Test Is Really Measuring
If you’ve looked at a hormone blood test report, you may have seen more than one testosterone line: “total testosterone”,…
Read morePeptides are one of the most talked-about topics in Sydney gyms, group chats and social feeds. What usually gets lost in the noise is the part that matters most: peptide-based medicines in Australia are generally prescription-only, and the safe way to explore them starts with a doctor, not a checkout page.
OPTIV Health is a telehealth service for hormone health, for men and women. This page explains what doctor-led peptide care looks like if you live in Sydney: how the process works, where your blood tests happen, what it costs, and how to tell a proper medical service from an online seller.
Doctor-led means an Australian-registered doctor assesses you before anything is decided. That assessment looks at:
Then the doctor decides whether peptide therapy is suitable for you. Often it is not, and the right next step might be more tests, lifestyle changes, a different approach or a referral. You’re paying for a medical assessment, not buying a product.
If treatment is clinically appropriate, any medicine is dispensed by a licensed Australian pharmacy, and your doctor sets a review plan. Read more on our peptide therapy page.
Because OPTIV Health is telehealth only, there’s no clinic to get to. Whether you’re in Bondi, Blacktown, Chatswood or Cronulla, the process is the same.
A short, no-obligation call with our care team. We explain how peptide care works, what it costs, and whether we’re the right fit. It isn’t a medical consult, so nobody will pressure you towards treatment.
Your consult is a phone call with an Australian-registered doctor. Take it from home, the office or a quiet spot on your lunch break. Consults are private, so no Medicare rebate applies.
Your doctor will give you a request form for a blood test. In NSW, we use Laverty Pathology and Australian Clinical Labs, which both have collection centres across Greater Sydney, from the CBD and Inner West to Parramatta, the Hills, the Northern Beaches and the Sutherland Shire. Pick one near home or work. Some tests are best collected in the morning or fasting, and your doctor will tell you how to prepare. Peptide patients have the same blood test panel as our TRT patients, usually done twice a year. It’s arranged through OPTIV Health, with the price shown at booking.
Your doctor reviews your blood tests with you and explains the options, including the option of not starting anything.
Responsible peptide care includes reviews. Your doctor checks how you’re going and decides with you whether to continue, adjust or stop. Between consults, you can reach our pharmacists and allied health team with questions.
Our team is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 7pm Sydney time.
Sydney has no shortage of places to buy “peptides” without seeing anyone: social media accounts, gym contacts and overseas websites. Some are labelled “research use only” or “not for human consumption”. Here’s why that route is risky:
A prescribing doctor and an Australian pharmacy give you assessment, quality-controlled supply and someone accountable for your care. We compare the two in detail in peptide clinics vs online sellers, and cover the general risks in are peptides safe?
The rules are national, so they’re the same in Sydney as anywhere else in Australia. In general terms:

Whichever service you choose, these questions help you check it’s genuinely medical:
If the answer to the first question is no, walk away.
Peptide therapy is one part of what we do. For our wider hormone health service in Sydney, including testosterone assessment, see hormone health telehealth in Sydney. If you’re weighing peptides against testosterone therapy, our testosterone therapy page explains that pathway.
The doctor’s consult is A$150, with no Medicare rebate. The blood test panel is arranged through OPTIV Health, with the price shown at booking, and any medicine is priced by the pharmacy. There’s no monthly subscription.
No. A doctor assesses whether peptide therapy is suitable for you. Often the right next step is something else, such as more tests or lifestyle changes.
Many peptide medicines are prescription-only, and many peptides sold online aren’t approved in Australia. Buying from unregulated sellers is risky, and supplying prescription medicines without a prescription is unlawful. A doctor’s assessment and an Australian pharmacy are the lawful route.
